Company story: From a garage to an industry expert

Like many great company stories, Kassatieto’s story also begins in a garage. In 1976, Unto Koiranen, an experienced cash register salesman, decided to set up his own business after recognising the need for a reliable cash register maintenance service. The company, which specialised in repairing cash registers, was aptly named: Kassatieto.

Family at the heart

Kassatieto’s early years were spent in the garage of their family home, where Unto and his wife Sirkka-Liisa served their customers personally. Demand grew rapidly, and soon the garage became too small. In 1978, Kassatieto moved to its first rented premises, and the company hired its first employee as a cash register salesman. At the same time, the production of cash register rolls began, marking an important step towards broader business operations.

In the 1980s, Kassatieto grew further. In 1981, the company moved to the Epilä Leather Factory, and in 1986, new premises were completed on Sellukatu in Lielahti. Cash register sales and maintenance flourished, and the workforce grew to ten employees. Kassatieto also began to expand its services, and in the early 1990s the company not only weathered difficult economic conditions but also expanded its production to include large-format printing rolls.

In 1995, Kassatieto decided to become a Finnish convertr of large-format printing rolls, and its production facilities were expanded to meet growing demand. This development led to new investments, and the company was able to offer its customers even higher-quality products.

The business grew, but the family remained at the heart of it

In the 2000s, Kassatieto continued to grow, and in 2002 a significant recruitment took place when Anna, Kassatieto’s current Business Director, joined the company. This recruitment proved to be a success for the future, as Anna and the current CEO, Mika Koiranen, soon began dating. In 2002, Kassatieto also won the Junior Chamber International export award, which raised the company’s profile.

The generational handover took place in 2007, when Mika Koiranen took the reins. The company continued to grow, and a new factory building in Ylöjärvi enabled even more efficient production. Kassatieto was run by a married couple, reflecting the strength of the company’s family ties.

Kassatieto continues its story as a family business, as Mika and Anna’s son, Eero Koiranen, became a partner in the company in 2025.

50th anniversary: the company’s story continues

In 2026, Kassatieto will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Looking to the future, Kassatieto remains committed to personal, reliable and honest customer service, just as it has been from the very beginning. On the anniversary date, 13 May 2026, customers are warmly invited to visit the company’s premises and celebrate with us. Kassatieto’s story continues, and our sights are firmly set on the next fifty years.
